My sister is a teacher and that is why I was excited to learn about Del Monte's Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms campaign! Check it out for yourself:
“Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms” campaign. One hundred prizes totaling $1,000 each will be awarded to teachers who get the most votes in the “Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms” online contest at www.fruits.com.
To be eligible to win, teachers must register for the “Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms” online contest at www.fruits.com. After teachers register their name and school, they can get all their fans -- from parents to students, to friends and family -- to vote for them. Ten winners will be selected each Monday for five consecutive weeks in October/November, 2010, for a total of 50 winning teachers North American teachers. Winners are based solely on the number of votes they receive. Winning teachers will receive $750 in cash to purchase school supplies and $250 in Del Monte fresh fruit coupons for classroom snacks and to use in fruit educational activities.
In an effort to support schools in less developed countries where many Del Monte products are grown, and where classrooms are also experiencing economic disadvantages, the “Teacher Monday: Cash for Classrooms” program will link winning U.S. classrooms with a school in Guatemala or Costa Rica. The 50 selected Central American schools will also receive $1,000 each for school supplies.

Let me know about a teacher that had an impact on your life.
For me...it was Mr. Lyles. He was my gym teacher in High school. He was also one of the first people to have entered the school after segregation was abolished. He shared some stories of his experience as a teenager that would make your skin crawl. I remember asking him why he would come back and teach at a school who treated him so badly when he was younger....he told me it was because there was nothing greater then seeing the children of those who didn't know better grow up and teaching them about love and respect....he was the most beloved teacher in my school....for me ... he taught a lesson in the human spirit and forgiveness that one can not teach through books...he was the definition of a teacher.

A teacher that had an impact on my life was my U.S. History teacher Mr. Vondrak in HS because for one he worked with me when I learned how to drive. If it wasn't for him having patience with me probably wouldn't know how to drive today.

ReplyDeleteThe teacher that had the most impact on me had to be my history teacher. Never before did I enjoy history but he had a way of teaching that made things click. Sadly I learned he died a few years ago at only 52. He inspired lots of people and will always be remembered.

My French teacher in high school was more than just a teacher -- she was also a friend and still is :) She made a huge impact on my life by going beyond the classroom and talking me through personal problems. *Thanks* for the giveaway!

MANDATORY ENTRY: The one teacher that made the most impact on my life was my junior high school typing teacher, Mrs. Landrum. I absolutely adored her. I was frowned upon by classmates because I would stay during my lunch period or after school and help Mrs. Landrum with whatever she needed. She helped me with problems I was having at home (problems I created) and she always made sure my diabetes was under control. She was constantly on me to eat right and to always test my blood sugar, even if I didn't want to. UGH! Now there is a phase in my life I wish I could of skipped! When I left Jr. High to head into High School I kept in touch with Mrs. Landrum via the post office. I often wrote her letters and I would occassionally receive holiday cards, like for Christmas and what nots. She was well into her early 60's when she was my typing teacher so I hate to think that she's not 'with us' anymore. Someone like her is Heaven sent and I believe should LIVE forever!
ReplyDeleteThank you for allowing me to share my story. I'm a little teary-eyed now, THANKS! Haa-haa-haa-haa!
